KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested a couple for allegedly harming and abusing a 4-year-old girl who is believed to be their adopted child.
Kajang district police chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said police were alerted of the case after receiving a report at 12.14am today.
Zaid said the child abuse incident is believed to have occurred on July 18 in a house in Beranang, Selangor.
“The complainant, a 20-year-old man, claimed that a husband and wife had abused their foster child.
“She is said to be beaten with a hanger and broomstick, and burnt with a cigarette lighter,” he said.
The victim, he said, is at least 4 years old and is Indonesian, but does not possess any birth or identification records.
“The victim’s mother handed her over to the suspects in April because they could no longer afford to raise her daughter.”

He said preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred because the victim did not like to eat rice and the suspect had forced the victim to swallow, which resulted in the latter vomiting.
“The child is also said to be hyperactive.”
After receiving the report, police rescued the victim at 2.30am and arrested a Malay woman and a Singaporean man from a house in Beranang, Selangor.
The suspects, he said, are aged between 28 and 30 and they have been remanded for seven days until July 28 to assist in investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
The victim has been taken to Kajang Hospital for treatment and a doctor confirmed that there were injuries on several parts of her body.
He also urged those with information on this case to contact investigating officer Suresh Krishnan at 017-433-3795 or contact the nearest police station. – The Vibes, July 22, 2022
