KOTA KINABALU – Sabah should be included in the fight against the legal action taken by the heirs of the apparent Sulu sultanate, said state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He said the Sabah attorney-general should be included in the team along with the federal attorney-general, given that the state was more acquainted with the issue.

He added the state had asked the federal government to include Sabah in the effort.

“To me, what is important is that Sabahans, or the state government, need to be included in any issue and preparation for the purpose of getting ready to fight them (Sulu claimants) in the international forum.

“I am not saying the federal attorney-general and government are not smart. I’m sure they have all the facts.

“But would it not be better if the Sabah Attorney-General’s Office is also within the team? I think we know the case better,” he told reporters here today after announcing the state preparations for the National Day celebrations.

Masidi said this when asked whether the state has made any preparations regarding the seizure of national oil company Petronas’ assets in Azerbaijan recently.

He said the federal government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri had given their assurance that they will take action and that national assets will not be seized again. – The Vibes, July 28, 2022
