KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government said it eyes with concern the move by the police force to post nine problematic officers to Sabah and Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said the force should have sought the views of the state government first before making the decision, especially as he is the state security council chairman.
“I look on this matter seriously even though the move is just a procedural or disciplinary action taken by the force against its officers,” said Hajiji in a statement today.
Hajiji, who is currently performing his haj, demanded an explanation from the police force over the matter.
Several politicians and groups have expressed their unhappiness with the transfer of nine police officers under investigation for an alleged extortion case to East Malaysia.
They said the posting to Sabah and Sarawak was insulting and stupid, and treated both the East Malaysian states as a mere “dumping ground”.
On Sunday, Selangor deputy police chief S. Sasikala Devi said the nine officers – with ranks ranging from constables to sub-inspectors – had been posted to East Malaysia even though the investigations into their alleged involvement in an extortion case were ongoing.
The officers were detained last Saturday to assist an investigation into an extortion case involving a businessman, believed to be related to drugs. – The Vibes, August 3, 2022
