KUALA LUMPUR – Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun will head the committee tasked with investigating allegations that a senior government official had publicly berated an Immigration officer at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Bernama reported Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali as saying that the committee will meet as soon as possible on the incident, which occurred on August 3.

Zuki said other members on the committee include Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Datuk Seri Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The outburst by the senior government officer, said to be the Public Service Department’s (PSD) director-general, was captured in a video that has gone viral, and has seen the Immigration Services Union of Peninsular Malaysia demand the PSD head’s apology.

“This committee will be responsible for conducting a detailed investigation so that appropriate justice can be given to both sides,” Zuki was quoted as saying.

In the viral video, the Immigration officer was reprimanded by the senior civil servant after observing that no staff was present at the counter of a VIP room at the time of the official’s arrival.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob then called for an internal committee to investigate the incident. – The Vibes, August 7, 2022
