KUALA LUMPUR – The government has agreed to declassify the report by the Special Committee on Governance Investigation, Government Procurement and Finance on the multi-billion ringgit littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal.
In a statement today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made at the weekly cabinet meeting today.
Ismail Sabri said the cabinet has also suggested for the forensic audit report of the project conducted in 2019 to be declassified.
However, he said that the advice and views of the attorney-general and auditor-general would have to be sought before proceeding with the aforementioned process.
“The government is committed to continue this project in the interest of national defence in line with the needs of the Royal Malaysian Navy.
“On behalf of the government, I assure that the investigation into this issue will be carried out transparently and that the government will not protect anyone involved.”
In addition, the Bera MP said the cabinet has decided to urge MACC to speed up the investigation.
“If there is strong evidence, the attorney-general should prosecute and those responsible will be brought to justice.
“I called Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun and MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki after the cabinet meeting to immediately act in accordance with the meeting’s decision.” – The Vibes, August 10, 2022
