MIRI – Opposition party Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has lost a state assembly seat following the resignation of its Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How from the party to become independent.
Sarawak assembly speaker Tan Sri Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar announced See’s departure from PSB at a press conference in Kuching.
“I have received a letter from Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How on Friday that he had resigned from PSB with immediate effect.
“With this latest development, the state assembly now has Gabungan Parti Sarawak with 76 seats, PSB (three), DAP (two) and one independent.
“YB See did not switch parties but resigned from PSB to be independent,” Asfia said.
See said he can still play an important role in the assembly, community, and with his constituents.
See is a third-term assemblyman who won his seat while he was in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Two years ago, he quit PKR and joined PSB. Subsequently, he contested the state election last December under the party’s ticket.
Having been nominated by PSB to defend Batu Lintang, See won the five-cornered fight, defeating candidates from GPS, PKR, Parti Bumi Kenyalang and Parti Aspirasi by a majority of only 93 votes. – The Vibes, August 14, 2022.
