KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) believes that its advisor Datuk Seri Najib Razak was not accorded his full rights in mounting a defense in the SRC International graft case, saying “justice hurried is justice buried”.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said the coalition stood by the legal maxim, which should have given Najib sufficient rights to clear his name.
Zambry said this was why Najib should be given the full run of the legal process, and based on the rule of law.
“The rule of law will continue to be the principle and direction for BN,” Zambry said in a statement.
“Thus, as mentioned by Lord Chief Justice (Gordon) Hewart, ‘justice should not only be done, but should be manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done’.”
This follows the jailing of Najib yesterday after the Federal Court upheld a lower court’s decision that he is guilty of all seven charges in the SRC International corruption case.
The decision means that Najib will have to serve his 12-year sentence.
Zambry said BN had also shared its sadness and grief with Najib, who had his conviction appeal rejected by the Federal Court.
He also called on BN members to remain in solidarity with Najib and to pray that the leader is given the strength, patience, and resolve to handle his tribulations.
