PUTRAJAYA – Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) intends to use the torch as its symbol in the 15th general election (GE15) if the coalition’s registration application is approved by the Registrar of Society (RoS).

The GTA sponsor committee met RoS director-general Mohd Nawardi Saad today to submit relevant documents and discuss registration.

On August 4, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the establishment of the GTA, comprising four parties, namely Pejuang, Putra, Berjasa and Iman.

“In order for GTA to qualify to contest in GE15, we are doing the proper process based on the law by registering this political coalition with the RoS,” said Dr Mahathir, who is also GTA sponsor chairman, in a statement read by the coalition’s secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya here today.

Dr Mahathir, who is also the Pejuang chairman, is still undergoing quarantine at home after being discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Sunday. He was admitted to IJN after being confirmed positive for Covid-19 on August 31.

Meanwhile, Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also GTA sponsor deputy chairman, hopes that GTA application for registration will receive due consideration from the RoS to enable the coalition to contest in GE15.

Mukhriz said GTA offers the people a new coalition that is comparable to existing coalitions such as Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional, and Pakatan Harapan.

“Preparations for GE15 are underway and the coalition members are moving together by sharing each other's strengths,” he said. – Bernama, September 6, 2022
