MIRI – Sarawak PKR will contest in 16 of the 31 parliamentary constituencies in the state in the 15th general election, while the rest will be divided between DAP and Amanah.

State PKR chairman Roland Engan said in a press conference in Kuching that the party will take on former leader Datuk Larry Sng in Julau, among others.

“The other seats are Petra Jaya, Puncak Borneo, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Betong, Saratok, Kanowit, Mukah, Selangau, Sibuti, Miri, Baram, Hulu Rajang, Limbang and Lawas.

“The respective branches in those constituencies will submit their candidates to the state leadership council by the end of this month. The 16 seats are an increase from the 15 that we contested in the 2018 general election.”

Engan added that the party has proposed he run in Baram.

Sarawak PKR’s sole MP currently is Miri’s Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng.

The other MPs Sarawak PKR had before they left the party include Julau’s Sng, who is now with Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin, now an independent, and Selangau’s Baru Bian, who joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

Out of the 31 seats in Sarawak, Gabungan Parti Sarawak controls 19 while the rest are held by an independent, PBM, Sarawak DAP and PSB. – The Vibes, September 9, 2022
