Senior citizen nabbed in drug case dies while getting treatment: police

IPOH – A senior citizen who was arrested in connection with a drug case at Jalan Carey here on Saturday, died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) today.

Ipoh police chief Yahaya Hassan said the 62-year-old male suspect was found to be unwell at about 9am, when he was due to be brought from the Jelapang police station to the magistrates’ court here to be charged.

“Police contacted the hospital and the detainee was sent to HRPB in an ambulance,” he said in a statement here today.

Yahaya said the detainee was confirmed dead following emergency treatment at about 10.30am, adding that the case was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody under the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.

“An autopsy will be done tomorrow to find out the cause of death,” he said. – Bernama, September 13, 2022
