KUALA LUMPUR – Only one of Top Glove Corp Bhd’s 28 factories remains open since its worker dormitories were put under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on November 17.
In his daily update today, Senior Security Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob assured the public that the sole factory will be closed soon after a task force to handle the matter has been formed.
“Up until last night, 20 of Top Glove’s factories have been closed. Today, we have managed to close another seven. Now, only one remains.
“This factory has 11,215 workers. Yesterday, a total of 5,795 Covid-19 screenings were done with 2,684 cases being positive.”
He said a total of 2,263 workers living outside the EMCO area will be screened and quarantined in order to curb community spread.
Malaysia yesterday recorded 2,188 Covid-19 cases with 1,673 coming from Selangor.
The bulk of infections in the state – 1,511 – were from the Teratai cluster, which is linked to thousands of Top Glove workers.
Meanwhile, several residential areas in Kedah and Sabah will be put under a 14-day EMCO, starting Friday to December 10.
In Kedah, the affected areas are in the Sg Seluang subdistrict – Taman Bayam, Taman Bayam Indah, Taman Kangkong 1 and 2, Taman Halia, Taman Cekur Manis, Taman Kobis, Taman Sawi and Taman Seri Limau.
As for Sabah, the EMCO will be enforced in Taman Telipok Ria, Tuaran.
Ismail Sabri also announced that starting tomorrow, cargo workers from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will be isolated for 14 days until December 9.
“Based on the risk assessment done by the Health Ministry, the National Security Council (NSC) has agreed to carry out an isolation programme that will involve 360 Malaysian Airlines Bhd cargo workers who are healthy, asymptomatic and have been found negative (for Covid-19).”
“The workers will be housed in Tune Hotel KLIA Aeropolis and will be put under strict surveillance by the Health Ministry, NSC and the police,” he added. – The Vibes, November 25, 2020
