GEORGE TOWN – Some 90 worshippers at the Masjid Jamek Alimsah Waley in Chulia Street here have been ordered to undergo Covid-19 screening after someone who attended last Friday’s congregational prayer tested positive, reported local Chinese media today.

According to the reports, the affected people will have to undergo Covid-19 screening before starting their 14-day self-quarantine.

As of yesterday, Penang has had more than 2,000 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic started.

Meanwhile, villagers in three Kedah districts – Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena and Kota Setar – must now contend with rising floods and Covid-19 as the monsoon season nears.

Some 85 people from three districts are being relocated from their low-lying houses to flood relief centres in higher ground since 10am today.

In a statement, Kedah Civil Defence disaster operations head Capt Saifuddin Abdullah said all evacuees were from 23 families in several villages in the three districts.

He added that the rain caused the river waters to rise one to two metres.

“Since this afternoon, the water has receded slowly. If it does not rain in the evening, then the waters are expected to recede and the villager will be allowed to return home.”

Today, the government put several residential areas in the state under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), starting Friday until December 10.

The affected areas are in the Sg Seluang subdistrict – Taman Bayam, Taman Bayam Indah, Taman Kangkong 1 and 2, Taman Halia, Taman Cekur Manis, Taman Kobis, Taman Sawi and Taman Seri Limau. – The Vibes, November 25, 2020
