PONTIAN – Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) said it hopes former Pasir Gudang MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin will be selected as a candidate in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), considering his position as Umno vice-president.

“We certainly want this Umno vice-president from Johor to be given a chance to compete in GE15,” said Johor BN chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad here today.

In the last general election, Khaled lost the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat to Hassan Abdul Karim of PKR by a 24,726-vote majority.

He was also defeated in Permas by Datuk Seri Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh (Bersatu) by a 8,746-vote majority.

Meanwhile, Hasni, who is the Benut assemblyman, said that for GE15, Umno will compete in 17 parliamentary seats in Johor, while MCA and MIC will contest in eight and one seats respectively, with no less than 60% being new faces. – Bernama, October 7, 2022
