KOTA KINABALU – Sabah BN’s number two Datuk Yakub Khan remains evasive on rumours that Tan Sri Musa Aman will make a political comeback and contest his former stronghold seat, Libaran, in this coming general election.
When asked at a press conference today whether it is true that Musa will be contesting in the election, Yakub said: “Ask Tan Sri Musa (yourself)”.
Recently, there have been rumours spreading on the ground that the former Sabah chief minister will make a sudden appearance during nomination day as a candidate contesting in Libaran, Sandakan.
Residents living around Taman Sejati Ujana, Taman Fajar and Taman Bahagia, Mile 7, Sandakan, also claimed to have received food baskets adorned with stickers displaying Musa’s name being distributed to every house in the area since September this year.
It has yet to be announced if GRS or BN will get to contest in Libaran, but it has been Umno’s stronghold seat, and based on developments of political events in the seat, it will be either be contested by Umno’s Datuk Suhaimi Nasir or Bersatu’s incumbent Libaran MP Datuk Zakaria Edris.
Musa stopped making public appearances and has been avoiding the political limelight since the last general election in 2018, and he did not defend his seat in Sg Sibuga during the 2020 Sabah election.
However, he had started organising functions under his name around the constituency this year, including a futsal championship for youth in Libaran in March.
Musa also attended several government functions including the state Kaamatan Festival in Keningau, and the most recent, present at former Sekong assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya’s funeral last Friday.
However, he did not attend the Zone 5 (Sandakan, Libaran, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Batu Sapi) BN Gelombang Biru tour event here on October 2.
Meanwhile, Yakub said that GRS talks with BN are now in the final stages of approval, adding that the two alliances are now deciding on the best candidates to represent the pact in Sabah’s seats.
He also commented on the proposal to have two deputy prime ministers from Sabah and Sarawak, saying that it is important that these positions are empowered with authority and not just for show.
