KUALA LUMPUR – Speculation over Khairy Jamaluddin and Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz’s fates were answered today when they respectively confirmed that they will be contesting in the coming general election.

Khairy, who was previously the MP for Rembau, confirmed to some press members that he will be vying for Sg Buloh.

This affirms earlier rumours of him contesting in the federal constituency in Selangor.

Khairy, who previously agreed to make way for Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to contest in Rembau, will take on PKR’s Datuk R. Ramanan.

Khairy was spotted entering the hall at the World Trade Centre here, where Umno is expected to announce its full list of candidates shortly, before heading to a seat that was allotted for the Sg Buloh candidate.

Tengku Zafrul, meanwhile, was seen sitting at a seat allocated for the Kuala Selangor candidate.

He confirmed to The Vibes that he will be contesting, but stopped short of commenting on which constituency.

“Wait for the official announcement.”

If confirmed, he will take on former health minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad of Amanah.

Controversial figure Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, who is Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer, will also be making his electoral debut in the coming election.

Speaking briefly to The Vibes, the Umno member said he will be contesting in Sg Besar, where he is the party’s division chief.

It was also announced that Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan will be fielded in Kota Belud while Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will be defending Kepala Batas and Putrajaya, respectively.

Selangor BN information chief Isham Jalil, a staunch loyalist and former aide of ex-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was also announced as the coalition’s candidate for Shah Alam. – The Vibes, November 1, 2022
