JOHOR BARU – Rafizi Ramli has foretold Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki that Pakatan Harapan will come after him over alleged misdemeanour once it forms the federal government after the 15th general election (GE15).
The PKR deputy president claimed that the MACC raid on his data firm, Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd, did not follow legal procedures and was carried out with the intention of uncovering dirt about him.
The PH candidate for the Pandan parliamentary seat said Barisan Nasional (BN) has run out of ideas on how to counter PH and PKR’s campaign, with polling day for GE15 set for this Saturday.
“So, what did BN do? They sent MACC down to detain my employees for the last two days.
“I don’t mind if they were to detain me, I’m used to being in and out of jail,” Rafizi said, saying that he was prepared to lose everything when he entered the political scene.
He said this during last night’s “Kita Boleh” rally held in Dataran Larkin in the centre of the Johor Baru parliamentary constituency.
Rafizi said there were irregularities in MACC’s raid on his data firm in the last two days.
“We’ll meet in court first tomorrow (today) as there is confidential information (inside the seized documents) related to customers, which are controlled under bank secrecy and customer confidentiality laws,” he said.
He also chided Azam, saying that PH will come after him after the general election.
“I know Azam is watching this (rally). I hope when PH has won the election and when we come after you, don’t shift the blame to your brother again,” Rafizi said.
Azam was embroiled in controversy after it was learned that he allegedly holds close to two million shares in a public listed company between April 2015 and March 2016, all while holding the post of MACC investigation director.
He however explained that the shares were bought by his brother, Nasir Baki, who used his trading account to buy them, with his consent.
Azam had yesterday said it was not accurate to describe the action as a “raid”.
He said the agency had just gone to Invoke’s office with three or four officers interviewing its staff and taking some related financial documents before leaving.
He confirmed that while the visits by MACC on Monday and yesterday were in relation to the RM18.5 million asset declaration by Rafizii, the anti-graft body is also investigating his revelation of an RM2 billion flood mitigation project that was awarded to a company 17 days after Parliament was dissolved.
The rally last night was PH’s last major push to gain support from Johoreans before Saturday. The four-hour-long event, which started at 8.30pm drew more than 1,000 people.
Among the notable speakers were PH’s candidate for the Johor Baru seat Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir from PKR, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub of Amanah (candidate for Pulai seat), PKR’s Jimmy Puah (Tebrau), PKR’s Hassan Abdul Karim (Pasir Gudang), PKR’s Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam) and Amanah’s Onn Jaafar (Kota Tinggi). – The Vibes, November 17, 2022
