KOTA KINABALU – A task force will inspect all People’s Housing Programme (PPR) units in Sabah and will evict tenants who are not eligible for housing aid for the poor.

Sabah’s Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the matter is happening in many PPRs in the state.

“We have formed a task force to inspect all PPR homes to ensure only those who are qualified are living in these units.

“PPR houses are for the B40 or the low-income earners. But I’m not sure whether the tenants are drivers or not, but I saw a ninja parked there,” said Masidi, referring to the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 luxury sports utility vehicle.

“I don’t know which is which. I know this is an unpopular call but the task force will take action and evict those who are not qualified for the housing aid,” he said in response to a supplementary question posed by Datuk Darell Leiking (Warisan-Moyog) at the Sabah assembly, here, today.

Leiking had earlier questioned the instances of individuals who are not qualified for assistance but are renting, and the instances of individuals obtaining two or three houses via proxy applicants of the PPR units in Kibabaig, Penampang.

Masidi noted that this is not only happening in Penampang but also at other PPR units in Sabah.

“It is my hope that those who are doing this will understand (when we kick them out). Our (the government’s) intention is not to trouble their lives but there are more people in need of this housing aid,” he said.

Towards this end, Masidi advised all elected representatives not to give out recommendation letters to friends or those who do not qualify for housing aid.

Sabah has the most number of PPR projects implemented with 33 projects comprising 23,009 units, while 3,090 are still under construction.

The state accounts for 21.4% of the total number of PPRs built nationwide. – The Vibes, November 29, 2022
