KUALA LUMPUR – Work to repair a broken sewage pipe believed to be the cause of yesterday’s landslide in Taman Mega Jaya, Ampang is expected to be completed by tomorrow, the local council said.

The Ampang Jaya City Council said Indah Water Konsortium had taken immediate action to repair the detached sewer pipe at Jalan Mega 15, which was pinpointed as the cause of a 30m-high landslide that hit the residential area yesterday.

There were no casualties nor property damage in the afternoon incident.

The detached pipe and a broken manhole were found following on-site inspections after the landslide.

“There was some soil erosion at the location of the damaged pipe. Investigations found that the location of the incident is underlaid by rocks,” the council said.

As an immediate measure, the council and engineering services group Ikram, had covered the eroded surface with plastic sheets yesterday evening.

The council added that Ikram is carrying out slope-strengthening work in the area and will also conduct further inspections for the purpose of implementing permanent remedial action. – The Vibes, December 3, 2022
