KUALA LUMPUR – The Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming has presented the Royal Belum State Park Special Area Planning Study to Perak ruler, Sultan Nazrin Shah yesterday.

The Local Government Development Ministry said in a statement that Nga presented the study during an hour-long audience at Hinggap Perak Palace here.

“The study identified five planning cores, 20 strategies, 58 actions and 172 suggestions in the form of development projects or programmes in a planning period till 2035.

“The project and programme implementation is expected to tackle planning issues related to human-wildlife conflicts including accidents, intrusions, poaching, the release of invasive species (tilapia) and pollution,” the statement read.

The study also recommended programmes relating to community development, research and eco-tourism to boost the economic benefits from forest preservation and conservation efforts. 

The Special Area Planning Study covers the entire 128,272ha area of Royal Belum State Park and the 1,081 Orang Asli residents in it.

The Royal Belum State Park was gazetted as a National Heritage Site under the provision of the National Heritage Act 2005 (Act 645) in 2012 and has the potential of being nominated as a World Heritage Site.

During the audience, Sultan Nazrin also conveyed his congratulations on the establishment of the unity government and said that the government should work closely with the civil service.

The audience with the Sultan of Perak is the first for Nga, who is the Teluk Intan MP, since being appointed minister on December 3. – Bernama, December 9, 2022
