KOTA BARU – A total of 14 people were evacuated to a temporary relief centre (PPS) in Kota Baru district after their houses were affected by floods today.

All the victims, who are residents of Kg Hutan Buloh, Melor, are now at PPS SK Melor.

One of the victims, Nik Bidah Nik Daud, 79, said herself, her two children, and nine grandchildren were forced to evacuate to the shelter after their house was inundated as the residential area did not have a drainage system.

“This is the first time we have been relocated to a PPS. In February, there was a flood but not as bad as this. We moved to the relief centre today at 2pm.

“I am appealing to the concerned parties to provide a drainage system in our village because I am worried that floods will recur,” she said when met at the shelter today.

Meanwhile, Fadlishah Ismail, the penghulu of the Padang Raja mukim and supervisor of PPS SK Melor, said residents involved were evacuated from their houses after flood waters rose to over a metre high. – Bernama, December 9, 2022
