KUALA LUMPUR – All campsites by rivers and in high-risk locations, such as hillsides and waterfalls, are closed immediately until further notice, said the Pahang Forestry Department.
This comes after the prediction of heavy rain brought by the northeast monsoon as well as in the aftermath of yesterday’s Batang Kali landslide tragedy.
“The directive applies to all campsites run by the state Forestry Department and private operators such as those in Lubuk Yu Eco-park, Maran and Cameron Highlands’ Parit Falls Eco-park.
“The public is advised to abstain from recreational activities in high-risk areas,” it said in a statement.
As of last night, 12 victims are still missing while 21 bodies have been found and 61 rescued out of a total of 94 victims involved in the landslide incident at a campsite in Batang Kali.
The search-and-rescue operations resumed at 8am today, involving the K9 Unit, Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team, and Emergency Medical Rescue Services from the Bukit Sentosa, Ampang, Pandan, Kota Anggerik, Kajang and Andalas stations. – The Vibes, December 17, 2022
