KUALA LUMPUR – Petaling Jaya residents can expect a river trail along Sg Penchala that will connect the Asia Jaya LRT station to the Seksyen 19 commercial area next month.

It was announced by Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran who posted on Facebook that construction of the pathway began in August and will be completed before the opening next month. To date, 80% of the work is completed.

Rajiv said that the 700m-long project, which is by the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), cost RM409,000.

“This river trail has two purposes. The first is to create a recreational path for all Petaling Jaya residents to enjoy alongside the river.

“Another purpose is to connect Seksyen 19 and its commercial areas to the Asia Jaya LRT station, as this river trail begins opposite Millennium Square and ends opposite Toyota, Seksyen 19,” Rajiv said.

He said the river trail will help make PJ more walkable. Cyclists will be allowed to use this route as well.

“As we move forward, sustainable development that has multiple benefits has to be prioritised,” he added.

To prevent motorcycle riders from using the pathway, he said bollards would be installed which would still allow wheelchair access.

Rajiv also shared a photo of him and Petaling DID deputy district engineer Ezman Embok Zrik visiting the project site on Twitter.

“Thank you for your hard work for the residents of Petaling Jaya,” said Rajiv in his tweet.

Some Twitter users also shared their enthusiasm for the pathway, adding that they were looking forward to walking, jogging, and cycling along the river.

A user named @mhmgrgie called it a lovely project and looks forward to more connected walkways in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.

Another user, @_AhmedBo, said he hopes that Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh would also do the same alongside Sg Kayu Ara from Penchala all the way to PJ.

Rajiv said that the scenic pathway will be recreational in purpose while making the area more pedestrian and cyclist friendly. – The Vibes, January 8, 2023
