KOTA KINABALU – A 69-year-old fisherman was found clinging to an oil container in the waters off Karambunai, Sepanggar near here.

Morris Dulin was reported missing early yesterday, while two of his fishing mates were found safe after their boat capsized at 6am.

Kota Kinabalu district police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah confirmed Dulin was found at 1.45pm today by the Royal Malaysian Navy, more than 30 hours after the incident.

“The victim was found safely still clinging to an oil container in the middle of the sea. He was then brought back to the base for treatment,” Zaidi said when contacted.

All three victims are from Kg Mengkabung, Tuaran. They reportedly went out to sea to catch fish, but ran into foul weather on the way back, which caused their boat to capsize.

Search-and-rescue operations were carried out by the Royal Malaysian Police, Marine Police Force, Air Operations Force, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, and civilian fishermen. – The Vibes, January 26, 2023
