KOTA TINGGI – The Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing route has been closed at KM60 to light vehicles since noon yesterday due to floods.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Hussin Zamora said motorists are advised to take an alternative route through Tenggaroh.

“So far only one main route, Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing, has been closed to light vehicles, and only heavy vehicles and four-wheel drives are allowed to pass through.

“A 40m-stretch of the road is flooded,” he said when met at the relief centre set up at Dewan Muafakat Taman Desaru Utama, here, today.

He said other roads closed to light vehicles were Jalan Mawai Lama (Rumah Burung), Jalan Tg Sedili (Kg Gembut), Jalan Johor Baru-Endau (Risda Farm), and Jalan Lok Heng-Sg Mas (Sg Semalok).

Hussin said police were also actively conducting patrols and sending food aid to nearby residents, such as the oil palm plantation workers at Ladang Ibzi Punggai who were cut off due to flooded roads.

He said meetings with various agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, the army, local authorities, the Civil Defence Force, and the Health Commission were continuously held to ensure that duties and roles were well coordinated without any duplication of efforts. – Bernama, January 26, 2023
