KUALA LUMPUR – The alternative shuttle service for commuters of the Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines saw smooth sailing today, following the closure of the LRT service between the Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations, according to Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd.

The operator said that based on morning and evening peak hour observations at main stations such as the Hang Tuah and Masjid Jamek stations, passenger flow was smooth and controlled.

This is despite the crowded conditions during rush hour due to a high number of passengers, following their return to the city to work after the Chinese New Year holidays.

The alternative service, which includes a shuttle train connecting three stations, and 34 complimentary buses, also saw 348 Prasarana staff members at the main stations to control and assist passenger movement.

On Friday, the route between the Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya LRT stations on the Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines was indefinitely discontinued following a kinked track alignment near the Bandaraya LRT station.

Preliminary observations indicated structural damage to the flyover in the area, allegedly caused by adjacent construction works.

As compensation, the peak hour services for the Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines and the KL monorail line were extended. The morning and evening rush hours were extended from 6.30am to 10.30am and 4.30pm to 8.30pm, respectively. – The Vibes, January 30, 2023
