KOTA KINABALU – The cheaper Menu Rahmah initiative should be expanded to Sabah where RM5 for a meal is literally unheard of or unseen in the state, said a Warisan leader today.

Party vice-president Datuk Junz Wong said in a statement today that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry initiative which sets the price of lunch and dinner sets at RM5 a piece will help reduce the burden of consumers in the state.

“Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state administration should support and bring the initiative to Sabah. The initiative has received good response in the peninsula, but such a thing is almost unheard of or unseen in Sabah.

“In West Malaysia, even the M40 and T20 consumers are flooding participating outlets to have lunch for just RM5.

“How often do you hear of RM5 meals nowadays? Even economy rice costs more than that,” he said today.

The Tanjung Aru assemblyman noted the cost of eating out in Sabah is much higher than in the peninsula where the cost of lunch averages between RM8 and RM10 here.

He said Sabahans should also enjoy a RM5 meal, adding that the GRS government could offer incentives to participating businesses, such as discounts on license and assessment fees.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry aims to have 15,000 outlets nationwide to participate in the Menu Rahmah initiative with most of them focused in the peninsula.
