KOTA KINABALU – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called on his political detractors to set aside their intentions to rattle his leadership over the state, and instead focus on building Sabah.

This comes after Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for a ceasefire between Sabah Umno and GRS after a failed bid to push Hajiji, who is chief minister, out of power last month.

Hajiji remains chief minister after garnering the support of 44 assemblymen, including several Umno dissidents, after the crisis.

“We have gained the trust. Everyone knows we are still the government,” he said.

“It is my hope those who still have other intentions must focus for the good of the state, unity, and development of the state and its people,” he told reporters when met at the state administrative building at Menara Kinabalu here today.

On January 6, Umno, the main component in Barisan Nasional (BN), withdrew from the GRS-BN alliance which ruled the state, citing among others that Hajiji had broken promises to BN and had lost his legitimacy as chief minister after leaving his former party Bersatu.

Warisan and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat have also questioned Hajiji’s legitimacy as chief minister. – The Vibes, February 3, 2023
