KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who recently left Pejuang, has accepted Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia’s (Putra) invitation to join the party.

The matter was announced by former Pejuang central executive committee member Armin Baniaz Pahamin in a Facebook post last night, which stated that Dr Mahathir’s jump to Putra was followed by 12 other ex-Pejuang members.

Armin said that the decision to join Putra was made to continue their political fight towards unifying the Malays.

“Our mission and goal must be clear if we are to succeed in a struggle. Our main aim is to unite the Malay people, parties and organisations.

“Please pray that God eases and blesses our struggle. It is only through uniting the Malays that we can resolve our problems for the sake of religion and country,” he said in the post, which included a photo of several former Pejuang members holding Putra membership forms.

One of the individuals in the photo was former Federal Territories Pejuang chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, who resigned from his party post last year due to a loss in confidence in the leadership of party president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

Earlier this month, Dr Mahathir and 12 other members announced their exit from Pejuang, the party the two-time prime minister had established in August 2020.

This occurred after Mukhriz decided to withdraw Pejuang from the Gerakan Tanah Air coalition.

Dr Mahathir had subsequently said that he was considering Putra’s invitation to join the party as its adviser. – The Vibes, February 25, 2023
