KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has foiled an attempt to embezzle 17,195 litres of diesel at an unnumbered storage facility in Inanam here.

State ministry director Georgie Abas said a local man believed to be the owner of the facility was also detained while a lorry, skid tank, and oil drums believed used in the operation were seized.

“The value of the seizures are around RM93,660.25, while preliminary statements taken from the owner of the storage revealed he had obtained the controlled item from a legit supplier.

“However, after a check on two workers at the facility, they failed to present the permits and licence to store diesel at the said location,” said Georgie in a statement here today.

He said the case is now being investigated under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for keeping a controlled goods without any permit from the controller of supplies and without the proper permits and licence. – The Vibes, February 28, 2023
