MELAKA – Three Umno division chiefs in Melaka have defended their posts uncontested in the ongoing party elections, Melaka Umno secretary Datuk Mustafa Musa said.

They are Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (Masjid Tanah), Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman (Kota Melaka) and Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali (Hang Tuah Jaya).

“The Jasin division, meanwhile, will see a four-cornered contest between incumbent Datuk Hasan Abd Rahman, state executive council members Datuk Zaidi Attan and Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, and Datuk Mohd Yusof Osman.

“In Tangga Batu, there will be a straight fight between incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad and division youth chief Datuk Rais Yasin.

“Likewise, in Alor Gajah where incumbent Datuk Rospandi Leman will also be challenged by the division’s youth chief and Asahan assemblyman Fairul Nizam Roslan.

“We expect stiff competition this time around but this only proves that the democratic process in Umno is very much alive,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

The Umno polls began on February 1 and will run until March 18. – Bernama, March 2, 2023
