KUALA LUMPUR – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) acceptance of the party’s no-contest resolution for its top two posts to be made public.

He said he will be instructing Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan to show the letter to the media so as to “put to rest” doubts that the resolution was valid.

“(The RoS’ letter) will confirm that the Umno general assembly is the highest decision-making body in Umno.

“It will also confirm that the party’s rules and constitution have been adhered to,” he was quoted as saying by New Straits Times at a party event in Alor Star, Kedah.

Zahid was responding to Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who was quoted by Berita Harian earlier today calling for the RoS’ letter to be made public given a dispute over the matter.

Ismail Sabri, who is not defending his vice-president post, said there had been conflicting media reports as to whether RoS had accepted that the no-contest resolution was in order.

The resolution was passed at Umno’s annual general assembly in January, ahead of party elections that are now ongoing until March 18.

Yesterday, Zahid said RoS had approved the resolution and found it to be in accordance with the party’s constitution and procedure. – The Vibes, March 5, 2023
