KUALA LUMPUR – Thunderstorms, heavy rain and fallen trees were among the reasons behind the power failure that disrupted Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd’s (KTMB) Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) yesterday.
Due to the adverse weather, KTMB said fallen trees affected stations along the Slim River-Sg Buloh, Kepong-Rawang and Rasa-Slim River.
The rail operator added that the counters and master panel were not functional due to the disruptions that forced passengers to alight at the end of the platform.
Currently, the technical teams are working to repair the damages.
“ETS commuters who were unable to complete their journey will qualify for a full refund of their tickets,” KTMB said in a statement released at 1.30am today.
The disruptions did not sit well with commuters yesterday, as many took to social media to vent their frustration, especially on the long wait for buses and having to walk along the tracks.
Meanwhile, KTMB said on its Facebook page that the Batu Caves-Sentul, Kepong-Rawang, and Rasa-Slim River lines have been restored.
Earlier, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the recent KTM Komuter service delays in the Klang Valley are temporary and would be resolved once Phase One of the Klang Valley Double Track project was completed.
Yesterday’s bad weather also disrupted the Kelana Jaya LRT service between Taman Melati and Gombak when its signalling system was damaged when hit by lightning.
The 6.56pm disruption forced the Kelana Jaya LRT trains to move slower and stopped longer at the stations.
According to rail operator Rapid KL, the technical issues were resolved by 1.33am today and several tests were carried out to ensure operational safety and stability. – The Vibes, March 23, 2023
