KUALA LUMPUR – Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul has received a motion submitted by an opposition MP urging action against a minister accused of lying to the House.

The motion was filed by Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (Sik-PN) against Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa-PH) over the latter’s claim that Kedah is one of the states which saw a reduction in Malay reserve land.

“I have received the motion seeking for the minister to either correct or apologise for his statement if the information given on the status of Malay reserve land is not true.

“However, since I just got the motion yesterday, I will refer to the Kedah Land and Mines Office and the federal Lands and Mines Department.

“I will provide an answer (to the motion application) later today,” Johari said when Tarmizi raised the issue in the Dewan Rakyat this morning.

Yesterday, the Dewan Rakyat saw Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim (Pendang-PN) temporarily ejected from the chamber after he refused to withdraw his remarks accusing Nik Nazmi of lying to the House about Kedah’s Malay reserve land size.

To back his argument, the PAS MP cited figures from the state Land and Mines Office which showed an increase of over 400 acres of Malay land reserve, contrary to Nik Nazmi’s claim.

Following a heated exchange between Awang and several government backbenchers, Deputy Speaker Alice Lau ordered the sergeant-at-arms to escort him out of the House. – The Vibes, April 4, 2023
