KUALA LUMPUR – The media has been urged not to make assumptions on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation involving a minister's officer from the Human Resources Ministry.
Minister V. Sivakumar said he could not provide a comment on the matter, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Nonetheless, he requested that the media refrain from making speculations that could jeopardise any party.
“I am aware of the arrest of an officer from my office. Considering this matter is still under investigation by MACC, I cannot provide a comment on this,” he said in a statement.
“The Human Resources Ministry and I will give full cooperation to the agency if needed.
“Therefore, I hope the media does not make any assumptions or speculations that could affect any party until MACC’s investigation is completed,” he added.
Earlier today, MACC commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the commission’s officers had detained a senior officer to Sivakumar, while a raid was conducted at the ministry.
He also confirmed that other individuals were also detained to assist in investigations regarding graft allegations involving a migrant worker recruitment agency.
Apart from detaining an aide, MACC has also called in a senior ministry official and contractor for questioning.
Those involved had allegedly set up a migrant worker recruitment agency to obtain approval from the ministry, despite conflicts of interest. – The Vibes, April 13, 2023
