KUALA NERUS – The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry is conducting an audit throughout phase one of the Rahmah Baskets’ distribution process to ensure that the aid reaches its target groups.

Its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the ministry would also update the data to be more accurate in the future, using the appropriate mechanisms.

“We will use existing mechanisms to ensure the aid reaches the target groups. We have eKasih, data from the Social Welfare Department, and the ministry’s own data.

“In addition, we will use the list provided by elected representatives because they know the target groups better,” he told reporters after flagging off the Terengganu-level Rahmah Trucks convoy at the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin driving range here today.

A total of 1,600 Rahmah Baskets, worth RM100 each, were distributed today to the hardcore poor.

According to Salahuddin, the first phase of the distribution process is expected to be completed in June, involving 130,000 hardcore poor households nationwide.

“For the next phases, we will hold engagement sessions with the industry that will continue to contribute, and I’m confident this programme will continue to benefit the people,” he said.

He said in line with the programme’s theme, Rahmah For All, the government will not look at the background of the recipients, adding that the people in opposition-ruled states of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu also benefit from the initiative. – Bernama, May 13, 2023
