KUALA LUMPUR – Mid Valley City will be closed until further notice following a fire this morning involving an external power substation.

The management of Mid Valley City confirmed the incident on Facebook and said the fire had been brought under control.

It has also imposed a temporary power disruption for safety purposes until the authorities allow the electricity supply to resume.

“Mid Valley City will be closed until further notice. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to reiterate that the safety of our shoppers and guests remains our top priority,” it said on Facebook.

“In prioritising the safety of all present, a temporary disruption to power supply will be implemented until authorities authorise its restoration,” it added.

The fire broke out at an external Tenaga Nasional Bhd substation and was subsequently contained by emergency response teams.

Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived at the scene at 10.42am to subdue the fire.

“As of 11.38am, we can confirm that there have been no injuries or casualties reported,” the mall management said.

In an update at around 1.30pm, the Mid Valley City management said the mall will remain closed today.

“The Fire Department has successfully put out the fire at the TNB substation. The mall will remain closed today as we assess the damage. We can confirm that there have been no reported injuries or casualties,” the management said.

Meanwhile, Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) at Mid Valley said that while its cinema here was not affected, it was temporarily ceasing operations and cancelling all shows.

“We are cooperating with local authorities and the mall’s management to ensure everyone’s safety.

“As such, all shows at GSC Mid Valley KL will be cancelled and the cinema will be temporarily closed until further notice. We will be issuing refunds for all purchased tickets,” it said on its social media platforms. – The Vibes, May 17, 2023
