KUALA LUMPUR – Power has been fully restored to Mid Valley Megamall and surrounding areas following a fire at a substation there this morning, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) said.
Electricity supply was restored at around 12.30pm, said Dev Anandan, TNB’s officer in charge of grid power.
“TNB’s technical rapid response team was able to begin restoring electricity supply in stages from 10.55am. Supply was restored to the majority of affected areas within half an hour,” he said in a statement.
TNB’s investigations into the fire found that a problem affecting the main substation at the mall began at 10.27am and power was cut at 10.51am.
“The supply disruption involved limited areas around Mid Valley and a part of Desa Pantai.
“The transportation system at KL Sentral, however, was not affected and (a power cut there) was due to a different power supply issue,” Dev said in response to reports that electricity had also been cut temporarily at the capital’s transit hub.
He thanked the Fire and Rescue Department for responding to the emergency, and also urged customers with power supply issues to call the TNB Careline at 15454.
The fire at Mid Valley Megamall was reported by Twitter users at around 10.30am. Mid Valley City is also closed temporarily until the authorities declare it is safe for reopening and for electricity supply to be restored. – The Vibes, May 17, 2023
