GEORGE TOWN – One of the country’s oldest political parties, the People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP), is now looking to be reinstated by Barisan Nasional (BN) in time for the upcoming six state elections.

MyPPP president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D’Cruz said today the party had received the go-ahead from the Registrar of Societies to commence its activities.

MyPPP, formed in 1953, held its first annual general assembly in five years in March, after emerging from a leadership crisis that saw it deregistered.

“Almost everything is now cleared. We are no longer de-registered and we can commence our work to serve the people and nation now,” Maglin told a press conference here.

Maglin, a former deputy federal minister, said that the party will first focus on reviving its presence in Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Negri Sembilan – the four out of six states that are due to hold polls.

Simultaneously, MyPPP will also seek reinstatement within BN, he added.

“We have written to the BN secretariat to notify that we have the clearance from both the RoS and the Home Ministry. We can resume our work after five years of court battles,” said Maglin, who was previously in a tussle with former party president Tan Sri M. Kayveas over the party leadership.

Maglin said MyPPP fully supports the national unity government and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, and would help his administration steer the country away from racial and religious politics.
