KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given his assurance to resolve Sabah’s prolonged issues involving roads and water.
Speaking during the Kaamatan harvest festival celebrations, the prime minister said that he will hold a high-level federal and state meeting tomorrow morning to resolve these problems with the Sabah government.
“I know there are many ministers, assemblymen, and MPs who said that Anwar must go to the (Sabah) rural areas, and only then would he know that car tyres have to be changed constantly,” he said during his speech at the Kaamatan festival closing ceremony held in the Hongkod Koisaan, or Unity Hall, in Penampang today.
“The roads are horrible… I want to give my guarantee that the unity government is serious and determined to resolve all these problems as immediately as possible.”
Anwar also reiterated Putrajaya’s decision to hand over full control of development projects under RM50 million to the state, which he had announced last January.
Anwar also complimented Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor who had sought additional projects for the state’s people, adding that the Sabah chief minister was a real leader unlike some who approached him asking for projects and shares for their own benefit.
Towards this end, Anwar also announced an RM1-million allocation for the benefit of the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA), while adding that he will wait for the paperwork for a proposed university college in Tambunan.
Earlier, KDCA chair Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan revealed in his speech that Putrajaya has approved the establishment of a university college in the district about 80-km east of Kota Kinabalu, but that its setting up would require funding.
He also noted the paperwork for the university has yet to be handed over to the prime minister. – The Vibes, May 31, 2023
