KUALA LUMPUR – Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan shared a heartfelt analogy today, equating Umno to a “big tree that provides shelter” as a reminder for delegates to take care of the party.
Speaking on the last day of the Umno general assembly, he advised his fellow party colleagues to avoid “killing the Umno tree” so that future generations can reap the benefits of its preservation.
“Let us leave a seed for the future, so it (the “Umno tree”) would grow and provide shelter from thunderstorms and the scorching heat, as well as bear fruit for us to enjoy together,” he said in his winding-up speech this evening.
“Many have enjoyed the produce of this tree, and many no longer need it.
“But do not cut down this tree, so future generations can enjoy its fruits and shelter as well,” he added.
Tok Mat summarised his message throughout the assembly by reminding delegates once again to avoid butting heads, as their ultimate object is to uplift the party to its former glory.
He urged members to do their best for the upcoming state elections, as Umno no longer has the privilege of time to prepare for it.
“I hope we can uphold our mission to defend Umno’s honour and dignity, if it is still there,” he said.
“Let us strive together to ensure that we achieve a victory that we can be proud of,” he added.
During the assembly, Mohamad also said repercussions will befall Umno if the party fails to complete its main political objective of championing the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Should the party fail to uphold its performance as the government, he said it could disappoint the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and stoke the people’s ire.
Barisan Nasional saw its poorest electoral performance during the last general election, having only secured 30 parliamentary seats, where 26 of them were secured by Umno. – The Vibes, June 10, 2023
