KUALA LUMPUR – Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan expressed his condolences to the families of armed forces personnel killed during weapons training at the Basic Grenade Training Site of the Syed Sirajuddin Camp in Gemas yesterday afternoon.

“My condolences to the families of the late Corporal Mohd Syuib Bidin and Lieutenant Mohd Iqmal Masdi.

“The soldiers fell during training to defend the country. May the family members be given strength and perseverance in accepting fate,” he said in a post on his Facebook last night.

In the 12.10pm incident, a student of the Sendayan Air Base Institute of Administration and Studies died at the scene while another victim, a trainer, died while undergoing treatment at the Segamat Hospital.

The incident also caused injury to another trainer who is still at the hospital.

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), in a statement yesterday, said that it would set up an Investigation Board to identify the cause of the incident.

The RMAF also urged all parties not to make any speculation until the investigation process was completed and to respect the sensitivity of the families of the personnel involved. – Bernama, June 26, 2023
