KOTA BARU – The owner of a female hairdressing salon was issued a RM100 compound by the Kota Baru Municipal Council for breaching the state by-laws.
The salon owner had apparently allowed her female employee to cut a male customer’s hair.
The incident took place last week during an operation by the council, soon after the owner of a boutique was fined by the local authorities for inappropriate dressing.
Kelantan Chinese Association Federation president Datuk Oie Poh Choon said the salon owner had since paid her fine.
“I accompanied the woman to pay the fine, and she admitted that she had forgotten the regulation,” he said.
The council’s by-law states that non-Muslim female hairdressers are not allowed to offer haircuts to any Muslim of the opposite sex.
“During my recent meeting with the association’s members, we stressed to them not to breach the council’s laws or any laws, as we do not want certain quarters to take advantage of the situation,” he said.
The male customer had reportedly visited the salon with his family. – The Vibes, July 16, 2023
