BUTTERWORTH – Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Sungai Dua, Datuk Shaik Hussein Mydin, intends to focus on affordable housing, welfare and education should the majority of the 23,000 voters in the Penang mainland state constituency vote for him on August 12.

The Penang Umno deputy chief said that he had been well-received by the public and the party’s machinery was running smoothly as the second day of campaigning drew to a close yesterday.

“Residents here shared during a meeting with me that there were not many affordable homes here, so I’m planning to create more to give them the opportunity to own their own homes.

I will work towards developing affordable housing because we believe it can be implemented by BN and Pakatan Harapan, we are now the federal government," he told Bernama after attending a local community meet-and-greet programme in Pajak Song, here yesterday.

He expressed hope that voters here, including youths, who make up 20% of voters here, will choose him as their voice, not only at the state level but also at the federal level, through the unity government.

“My campaign for the next two weeks will be more on meeting voters in person. Sungai Dua has about 18,000 Malay, 4,000 Chinese and 640 Indian voters.

“I want to meet as many voters as possible and hope the good momentum will continue till August 12, and that it will translate into a win for BN,” he added. – Bernama, July 31, 2023
