PERMATANG PASIR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife arrived at SK Seri Penanti to vote at 9.30am.

The prime minister took time to shake hands with those present, while some also took the opportunity to take a selfie with him.

The couple later cast their votes and once again spent some time with those gathered there.

Anwar also urged all voters to come out early and cast their votes.

“Campaigning is over and it is time for us to close ranks.

“So far, the voting process has been smooth,” he told reporters there.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, reiterated that any decision at the state elections will not have an effect on the federal administration.

“The federal government will function as normal and we will all resume work tomorrow,” he added.

Pakatan Harapan’s Muhammad Faiz Fadzil of Amanah is defending the seat against Amir Hamzah Abdul Hashim of Perikatan Nasional.

He won it in 2018 with a 2,981-vote majority against Muhammad Fauzi Yusof of PAS and Anuar Faisal Yahaya of Barisan Nasional.

The state seat is one of three in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency, with the others being Seberang Jaya and Penanti.

All three seats were won by Pakatan Harapan in the last general election. – The Vibes, August 12, 2023
