KUALA LUMPUR – Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has reported a total of 42 instances of MyKad misuse during polling day for the state elections today.

He said that these cases involved the utilisation of someone else’s MyKad under Section 7 of the Election Offences Act 1954, adding that it was possible that more such cases may exist.

“As of 6pm on Saturday, August 12th, Selangor reported the highest number of cases, totalling 16, followed by Kedah with nine cases, Penang with eight cases, Terengganu with five cases, Negri Sembilan with three cases and Kelantan with one case,” Razarudin said at a special press conference held today at Bukit Aman.

Additional cases reported included two instances of unsealed ballot boxes in Penang, incidents of printing paper resembling ballots, and objections to the process of dipping the right-hand finger in ink.

He affirmed that these matters would be referred to the Election Commission.

The IGP also noted instances of damaging political party flags, classified under Section 427 of the Penal Code for acts of mischief.

He clarified, however, that no cases of rioting, arson or assault were recorded. Despite the police reports filed on polling day, Razarudin asserted that the overall election process transpired smoothly. – The Vibes, August 12, 2023
