KUALA TERENGGANU – PAS central working committee member Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election yesterday, repeating his victory there from the last general election.

Amzad defeated Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Azan Ismail with a 47,266-majority, obtaining 68,369 votes, while Azan garnered 21,103 votes.

The Kuala Terengganu by-election was held following the decision of the Terengganu election court on June 27 to nullify the victory of Amzad, who is also former deputy science, technology and innovation minister, in the 15th general election after elements of corruption during the campaign period were found.

The by-election was held simultaneously yesterday with the state elections in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. – Bernama, August 13, 2023
