PETALING JAYA – Puteri Umno has targeted to raise a minimum of RM100,000 to assist the Palestinians through its Tabung Kemanusiaan Peace4Palestine Fund.

Its chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi said the fund was launched on October 20 and donations will continue to be collected until November 20.

“Puteri Umno initiated the fund as we wholeheartedly feel for the Palestinians and all 191 divisions are involved in it. We only have single goal, which is to help our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” she said.

The wing’s Welfare and Public Complaints Bureau chief, Dayang Nurazlin Nordin, said its members were deeply saddened by what is going on in Palestine and wanted to do their part to assist them.

Dayang, who is also a Puteri Umno exco member, said the initiative was led by Puteri Umno’s Welfare and Public Complaints; Social Harmony; and Economic Bureaus.

“Many of our members are young mothers and we cannot imagine the pain and trauma the women and children there are enduring.

“Social media has empowered youth across the world to reach out in their own way, whether through constructive comments, protests or raising funds.

“We, in Puteri Umno, want to do our part as well,” said Dayang.

As of today, Puteri Umno members have successfully raised RM70,000.

“This is largely a grassroot effort and most of the money was raised through small-ticket donations.

“Our members have visited night markets, mosques, train stations and other public places to seek donations,” she said.

Funds collected will be handed over to Wisma Putra, which will then use official channels to ensure the money reaches the Palestinians.

“We cannot go there to assist our brothers and sisters in need. This is the least we can do to help ease their pain and suffering.

“I wish to thank all Puteri Umno members for their efforts in mobilising this initiative and I am confident we will achieve our target,” said the head of the wing’s Security and Social Harmony Bureau, Norshaidatul Akhmar Sharudin.

According to Nooryana Najib, the head of Puteri Umno’s Economic Bureau, the initiative was a true reflection of today’s borderless community, where people from all over are capable of reaching out and helping each other.

“It is very inspiring and motivating to see the dedication and commitment of our young women in helping to make a difference.

“Every single member, even those at branch levels, are working hard to be part of this humanitarian effort which has moved and impacted the whole world.

“I was informed of a member in Kudat, Sabah who is working tirelessly, determined to do all she can to reach out and ease the sufferings of a girl in Gaza. We are really proud of our members,” she added.

Those who would like to donate to the fund can contact either Aira Ruslan at 017-6653143, Wan Humaira (011-16832712) or bank into Public Bank account number 5040 129819. – The Vibes, November 4, 2023
