KUALA LUMPUR -- The MP for Gua Musang in Kelantan, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, has expressed his support for the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, becoming the third parliamentary lawmaker from the opposition party to do so.

He said that his decision was effective yesterday, and that it was made after examining and listening to Budget 2024 tabled by Anwar who is also the finance minister.

He explained that its main goal is to spur economic recovery while also easing the financial burden of Malaysians.

"My decision is to ensure that the welfare of the people in my Parliamentary constituency is protected and so that they continue to receive various benefits including infrastructure improvements as I have requested for my constituency during my term of service," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

On October 12, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid had declared his support for Anwar’s leadership over the country.

This was followed by Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman doing the same on October 30.

Suhaili also expressed similar support towards Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Nor.

In making the announcements, both had asserted that they maintained their allegiances to Bersatu.

Bersatu suspended Iskandar from the party for a period of four years on November 3, and Suhaili for six years yesterday.

Mohd Azizi he  also expressed support for the government's initiatives to prioritise the welfare of the people until the next general election.

"Honestly, I have no intention of leaving or betraying Bersatu. But to ensure that my Gua Musang constituency’s (development) is in line with the federal government, it is appropriate for me to be a part of the leadership in Putrajaya led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"For the people of Gua Musang, whom I love very much, let's pray together that God always blesses our land and we receive the development we aspire for," he said in a statement late yesterday.
