BUKIT MERTAJAM - A 16-year-old boy caused the death of a motorcyclist and his pillion when he crashed his car into them along the Penang Bridge at 2.30am today.

Central Seberang Perai district police chief Tan Cheng San said the incident occurred at KM1.9 of the bridge heading to Seberang Perai.

"Both motorcyclists, in their twenties, were killed on the spot.

"The teenager also crashed into a lorry. The driver of the lorry was unhurt while the 16-year-old sustained minor injuries," he said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager was heading to Seberang Perai from the island when he crashed into the back of the lorry causing him to lose control and ram into the motorcyclists.

Police have since arrested the teenager and remanded him for a day to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Blood samples were also taken to determine if the teenager was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The driver was a student who used his mother's car to visit friends on the island and was returning home to Bukit Mertajam when the incident occurred.

Police have also since confirmed that the student did not possess a driving licence.

The bodies of the victims were sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem. – The Vibes, November 11, 2023
