STERN action will be taken against employers found abusing Indonesian domestic workers.

This warning comes from the director-general of the Immigration Department after Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Hermono raised concerns over the ill treatment of such workers.

Hermono had called for quick intervention by the relevant authorities to prevent such abuse, which included issues of unpaid wages and mistreatment.

“There will be no compromise against any employer found abusing their foreign help,” Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, today.

He warned that those found guilty of such offences will be charged in court under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and blacklisted from employing such workers again.

Ruslin said that, as of October 16, 447,094 Indonesian workers hold a temporary working visit pass (PLKS) and 57,916 of them are domestic workers.

“To date, we have not received an official report from the Indonesian embassy on the abuse of Indonesian workers.

“We also urge the public to provide us with any information on the abuse and exploitation of foreign workers,” he added. – The Vibes, November 13, 2023
